Real Gustavian Company History

Real Gustavian was founded by Lani Sternerup in 2002. After returning from living and studying in Sweden for six years Lani was amazed by the level of interest in the Swedish Gustavian style. With a degree from a Swedish University in Art History, Swedish 18th century was Lani's passion and specialty.

Lani also has a company called Classical Excursions which specializes in design study tours for Architects and Interior Designers. She annually leads a very exclusive tour called 18th century Sweden: The Golden Age of Gustavian Style, which visits more than 15 rarely seen Gustavian manor houses and palaces and offers Continuing Education Credits through the AIA.

Her work been featured in Victoria Magazine, Veranda, Town & Country, Travel & Leisure, Art & Auction, Antiques Weekly and New Old House.She has also just completed the translation and collaboration on the book Classical Swedish Architecture & Interiors 1650-1840, published by WW Norton.

Swedish antiques, Gustavian furniture and the 18th century in general are Lani's passion. Though she now lives in the US, Lani spends a great deal of time in Sweden throughout the year. With her Swedish husband and family she still summers in Southern Sweden as well as making frequent winter buying trips throughout the country.
